Boro hardly broke sweat against a dismal Mackem side that must de destined for the Nationwide.
Two first half strikes from Chris Riggott were fully deserved as Boro cruised through the first half, in fact it could have been more but for some slack play in the final third.
A rare Mackem attack gave them some hope ten minutes into the second half. Kevin Phillips scored from 25 yards when there was no apparent danger.
But the game was settled three minutes later when Malcolm Christie latched on to a loose ball from Kevin Kilbane to open his account for Boro.
Boro boss Steve McClaren will be more than happy with the three points and will be delighted with the overall performance. The defence was rarely stretched, the midfield controlled the game, while the the forwards worked their socks off.
The Mackems need a miracle if they are to beat the drop, they are seven points from safety and will not survive if they continue to perform as badly as today.
