This was possitively Boro's best performance of the season so far, if not the best under Steve McClaren. Boro dominated from the off and made Spurs, who topped the table a couple of weeks ago, look very ordinary.
Alen Boksic returned to replace the injured Szilard Nemeth while George Boateng and Gareth Southgate returned from injury, Colin Cooper and Tony Vidmar losing out, as Boro reverted back to a 4-4-2 formation.
Boro’s first came after half an hour, Jonathan Greening played the ball in from the left and Boksic headed back across goal to Massimo Maccarone who bundled the ball over the line from six yards.
It was disappointing that Boro did not increase their advantage before half-time and will of been high on Steve McClarens team talk in the interval, especially after the reversal at Everton two weeks ago.
Whatever he said it worked, Boro came out and continued where they had left off in the first half and within 15 minutes the game was over.
Geremi notched his first goal for Boro after good build-up play by Maccarone, he was in acres of space and had time to to pick his spot past Kasey Keller in the Spurs goal.
Minutes later Joseph-Desire Job was released by Maccarone again and he calming side footed the ball past Keller into the corner of the net.
But for the woodwork Boro could have embarrassed Spurs even further. The win moved Boro up to third in the table, leading the chasing pack after Arsenal and Liverpool. If we keep up this good points return we will be reaching 65-66 points by the end of the season and knocking on the door of Europe.
