Dr Andrews will perform an exploratory operation on Ugo before carrying out the necessary repair.
Ugo has been accompanied on the trip by Boro’s head physio Grant Downie, who will stay in the States with the Boro star, to start his rehabilitation, for about a month after the operation.
They will then both return to Teesside for Ugo to continue his rehabilitation which could take six months or more.
