But Southgate, himself, says he will weigh up the options should Boro hit the relegation trap-door.
Southgate: "He seems to want to wait until the end of the season, so that's his prerogative. I'm surprised - but that's his decision."
Turnbull was dropped for the league run-in and is obviously not happy with his position at the club.
