Lawrence hopes to persuade City chairman Sam Hammam to dip into the clubs coffers for the young England U-21 international who has scored six goals in four starts for the Bluebirds.

Campbell's goals have helped to push Cardiff to the verge of the second division play-offs and promotion would could be the deciding factor in the move being made permanent.

Speaking on the club's website Lawrence said "He would be perfect for us and I'm sure we could do it if we were in the first division, whether we could do it in the Second Division is another matter, but that's something we'll be looking at seriously in the near future."

Another Boro younster Sean Kilgannon is expected to sigh premanantly for Dunfermline, the young winger has been on loan for the past month or so and and it is thought that the Pars would complete the deal very soon.

Closer to home Boro have taken Cambridge United striker Armand One on trial for a week. The 19-year-old Frenchman has scored nine goals for cambridge this season and will miss the LDV Trophy Final against Blackpool this weekend while he is at Boro.

Cambridge are desparate for money and with the transfer deadline approaching, next Thursday, they had little choice but to allow One this opportunity. The 6ft 4in striker, who is valued at around £500,000 recently won a competition in which he was judged with the hardest shot in the Second Division.

In other reports today Steve McClaren has denied that he is interested in bringing Giorgos Karagounis to the Riverside from Greek club Panathanaikos.
