Middlesbrough boss Gordon Strachan has warned his players they cannot afford to fail in their quest for promotion this season. The recruitment of conditioning coach Roger Spry has signalled Strachan's determination to improve the fitness of his squad ahead of the new season. Boro failed to even make the play-offs last term and Strachan accepts another season of failure will not be tolerated. He said: "We have to get promoted. You want players who want to win every game. "In the Championship you are character-tested. If you've got character and goals in your team, then you've got to have a chance. "It might take some time to reshape the squad, but we will get there."
