Gary Pallister: “When I was at United, and Gordon was at Leeds, we had a momentous battle for the title in the early ’90s.
“Gordon was one of the main figures in the Leeds side and you knew when you played against him that he was a winner.
“He was a thorn in my side because Gordon and Leeds pipped us for the title (in 1992).
“Since then I’ve worked with him on TV and I know that he holds great views on the game.
“He’s a total football man. He’s just what the club needs now. He’ll blow a few cobwebs away.
“There’ll definitely be no signs of complacency.
“Gordon has enough experience in the game to know what is needed.
“He’ll be straight forward in the way he manages the players. There will be no hidden agendas. He’ll be forthright and honest with them.”
