Southgate swoops for a friend for Mido

Boro have signed Egypt midfielder Mohamed Shawky for a fee of £650,000 from Egyptian side Al-Ahly.

The 25-year-old has signed a three-year contract and has secured a work permit.

Shawky has won more than 40 caps for his country and was a key member of the squad which was successful in the African Cup of Nations on home soil in 2006.
