Southgate: A Deserved Point

The hosts had led through Michael Owen's opener on the hour-mark but a Robert Huth equaliser three minutes from time earned Boro a share of the spoils at St James Park.

"I think a point was the minimum that we deserved," Southgate said after the match.

"The first half we tried to frustrate them and we then tried to be more positive after the break, we created a number of chances.

"I never felt we were out of it. The last half hour was end to end, it was like playground football."
