Former Middlesbrough striker Bernie Slaven has warned manager Gordon Strachan that things need to improve fast if he is to save his job. Local newspaper the Evening Gazette have published the result of a fans' poll which delivered a damning verdict on the first year of Strachan's reign and columnist Slaven admits time is running out. He said: "[Chairman] Steve Gibson will have the gun in his drawer. He may not have loaded the bullets but he will do if thinks he needs to. "I don't want to see Strachan sacked as I don't see how it will benefit us right now. "But I can understand why the vast majority of Boro fans in this poll want it, though. "Performances have been poor and results have been woeful and for the money we have spent, we should be in a far, far better position."
