The match was called off a at about 11.15am on Friday after an inspection by the police match commander, the stadium's Safety Advisory Group, club safety officials and Premier League referee Jeff Winter.
They came to the conclusion that the match should not go ahead due to the amount of ice and snow on the terraces. Also taking into account the weather forcast it was posponed on safety grounds.
Robson said "It's very bad timing for us. I'm quite angry about the game being called off. I don't think there was much will from Middlesbrough about playing this game."
He added "I think there were reasons other than those that have been stated. We even asked for the match to be played next Tuesday, but nobody seems to be interested in that, and that kind of baffles me as well.''
I somewhat agree with Robson and was surprised that the game was called off so early. After all, it was Newcastle who are only 40 miles up the road and not Southampton 300 miles away, surely they could have made an effort to clear the terraces and inpsect again this morning.
As it approaches 3pm on Satuday there seems to have been a reasonable thaw on Teesside, I certainly have sympathy for the Newcastle boss and the many Boro fans who were looking forward to the match.
It is likely that the match will be re-arranged for Saturday 15th February when the 5th round of the FA Cup is scheduled, although this has not yet been confirmed.
