With Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp furious that some (ourselves included) have questioned the way he has tried to coax players away from their clubs, he wants his transfer dealings done and dusted.

And that must suggest he wants Stewart Downing tied up sooner, rather than later.

Boro are STILL digging in their heals, refusing to do a deal with the North London club, but Downing continues to put pressure on his owners by insisting he wants a move.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy and Pompey chief executive Peter Storrie have agreed on a figure of £15million for Defoe, and that could be the price to tempt Boro to sell Downing.
