The 27-year-old Morocco international arrived from Hibernian during the winter transfer window as he continued his comeback from a serious knee injury.
He made his debut as a substitute in the 4-3 home defeat by Swansea on January 12 and five of his six appearances to date have come from the bench, including his match-winning contribution against Derby on March 8.
Mowbray said: "He's a boy who is only four or five months down the road from a cruciate knee ligament injury and being out for a long time and we need to manage him.
"As we move on, probably for the remainder of this season, he is more likely to be an impact player rather than a starter."
