Middlesbrough v Manchester City: Team news

Left back Franck Queudrue misses the first of three games after his dismissal against Tottenham last week. His place could be taken by dependable Colin Cooper, however, with the lively Shaun Wright-Phillips to look after McClaren may look at other options.

He could move Bolo Zenden back to cover, but with George Boateng also missing the game, after picking up his fifth booking of the season at Tottenham, Bolo's services are required in midfield.

The most likely option is to bring back Michael Reiziger and play him out of position, leaving young Tony McMahon to continue at right back.

In midfield I would expect Doriva to come as a straight replacement for Boateng, although there is the option of moving Ray Parlour into the middle and bring in James Morrison to play on the right.

City have a doubt over Nicolas Anelka, so could start Robbie Fowler up front with Jonathan Macken. Sylvain Distin should recover from a knock to play in a defence that includes ex-Boro loan player Danny Mills (boo).

Possible starting line-ups:

Boro: Schwarzer, McMahon, Reiziger, Southgate, Riggott, Parlour, Downing, Doriva, Zenden, Viduka, Hasselbaink

City: James, Mills, Jordan, Dunne, Distin, Wright-Phillips, Bosvelt, Barton, Sibierski, Fowler, Macken
