In a bid to raise funds for local charities Boro joined forces with Natural Partners for the unique phone recycling scheme which aims to raise cash for Teesside Hospice and Roary’s Children’s Charity.
Many fans have already dropped off their old mobile phones in recycling bins at the MFC Retail stores and ticket office – but Boro hope more will make donations after receiving phones as Christmas gifts.
Boro’s Operations Manager Terry Tasker said: “Many people will be receiving new mobile phones for Christmas. We would urge fans not to throw their old mobiles to the back of the drawer but to bring them to the Riverside and leave them in our recycling bins.
“We’re very grateful to all those who have made the effort to bring in their phones already, but the more phones we get, the more money we will be able to donate to the two charities.”
The recycling bins are located in and around the stadium, the MFC Retail stores at the Riverside and in Captain Cook Square and Middlesbrough Football Community Centre in Eston.
Roary’s Recycling Charity Challenge aims to raise funds for Boro’s own Roary’s children’s fund and the clubs chosen charity, Teesside Hospice.
Whilst Boro are the first Premier League club to take part in the scheme, if successful it is hoped that it will be rolled out across the country in future.
