Mr Dean takes charge of his second Boro game this season, the first being the league defeat at Fulham in December when he failed to book a single player.

He was in charge of five Boro games last season, including two against Charlton, the 3-0 league defeat at the Riverside and the 0-0 FA Cup draw at the Valley.

So far this season he has officiated in 23 games season flashing the yellow card on 72 occasions and the red card 6 times. In total last season he officiated in 41 games dishing out 134 yellow and 10 red cards.

He is now a regular referee in the Premiership having started on the Football League list in 1997. He was appointed to the Premier League list in 2000 and has refereed over 80 Premier League matches to date.

He was appointed to the UEFA list in 2003 and has officiated in a number of European and international matches.

He was the referee for the Community Shield between Arsenal and Manchester United in 2004 and also refereed the FA Trophy Final in the same year.
