For the past week or two McCarthy's agent Rob Moore has been claiming that the deal was as good as done and that McCarthy would become a Boro player within days.
Now in a turn round, reports are emerging that the deal is off, Moore claims to have received a one line e-mail from Boro stating that the deal is off. No explaination was given.
Boro have had well documented problems in obtaining a work permit for McCarthy in the past but it was thought that his recent run in the South African side would enhance his chances.
There has been no official statement from Boro regarding the situation.
We are still awaiting a statement regarding the transfer of Massimo Maccarone from Empoli, although they have announced that out of contract Michael Boulding would be joining the club on trial from Grimsby Town.
