Marcus Tavernier completes move to Bournemouth

AFC Bournemouth have completed the signing of Middlesbrough midfielder Marcus Tavernier for an undisclosed fee.

90min confirmed talks last week between Boro and the Cherries had seen a fee agreed, which sources have confirmed is worth £12m plus £3m in add-ons.

The 23-year-old - a product of Boro's famed academy - has signed a five-year deal at the Vitality Stadium, becoming their third signing of the summer following on from Joe Rothwell and Ryan Fredericks.

Tavernier admitted that the lure of Premier League football was a major reason in him deciding to leave The Riverside.

"Obviously Premier League football was a big factor. It's something I've dreamed of ever since I was a little kid," he told the club's in-house TV station.

"But when I got the chance to speak to the manager as well, I know he wants to play and his philosophy, it sounds great for the style of player that I am.

"It's every kid's dream to play in the Premier League and I'm finally getting a chance to put myself out on that platform and show everyone what I can do."

Neill Blake, Bournemouth chief executive, told their club website: “We are very pleased to have brought Marcus in. He was one of the stand out performers in the Championship last season, and will be a good fit with our squad.

“He has a great pedigree, tremendous energy and is a versatile young player who can play a number of different positions.

“Marcus was attracting a great deal of interest and we are delighted he has decided to join us. Everyone at the club is looking forward to working with him.”
