The Nationwide Division 2 side sent their first team and reserve team to Hurworth to play against Boro. It was Boro's first taste of match action since the players returned to training two weeks ago.

In the 'first team' match Mark Crossley, Ugo Ehiougu, Colin Cooper, Jonathan Greening, Noel Whelan and new signing Massimo Maccarone all took part, the match ending in a 0-0 draw.

Boro ran out 2-1 winners in the 'reserve' match with Dean Windass grabbing both goals.

The Boro players now head off to Austria for a weeks training in the mountains, which culminates in another behind-closed-doors friendly against Italian side Udinese, in Gmunden on Thursday.

Later reports suggested that French trialist Eduardo Cisse from Paris St Germain also took part in the game. Midfielder, Cisse has been tracked by Boro and they will now consider making an offer of around £3m.
