A Premier League commission have fined Liverpool a paltry £20,000 and Ziege £10,000 for their involvement in the transfer.
Boro claimed that Liverpool had 'tapped up' Ziege after they were made aware of a clause in his contract, which allowed the player to talk to any club that offered £5.5m or more for him.
Apart from being confidential, between the club and player, the clause was only intended to be used if Ziege could not settle in England, and this was not the case.
Boro subsequently complained to the Premier League and finally, after 18 months, they have finally announced the outcome of their investigations. Although the commission found Liverpool and Ziege guilty the fines that they have imposed are ridiculous in today's money rich game.
Boro chairman Steve Gibson said "We're delighted with the outcome and it's only what we expected, but we're now looking to take this matter further."
Boro have alleged that they received two bigger bids for Ziege, from continental clubs, and were upset at having to sell him for a cut-price fee. It was reported that one bid was in the region of £8m from Valencia.
It is understood that Gibson wants the full market value from Ziege's transfer and reimbursement for lost revenue and marketing opportunities.
A visit to the High Court is now a possibility as Boro seek compensation from Liverpool for poaching the German international. The guilty verdict from the commission being the basis of an excellent case.
I'm sure this saga will rumble on for some time yet.
