I don't know about you but I believe the blame lies on Lamb's shoulders. What is it with this man, how does manage to turn a simple transfer into a disaster, although it's not just transfers.
Why do we persist in paying by instalments or appearances. If you want a player, you agree the fee and pay the money, simple as that.
It was common knowledge that Forlan's club Independiente were cash strapped, but Lamb still persisted in paying by instalments, leaving the door wide open for someone to steal him from under our noses.
Who are the fools here? Boro do all the spade work and get the player to England then Man. United step in, match Boro's offer, but pay upfront and say "thank you very much". The same thing nearly happen with Juninho and Arsenal.
Wasn't it Lamb who ultimately decided not to play at Blackburn back in December 1996, a decision that cost Boro three points and eventually their Premiership place. Who knows what would have happened in the following seasons with Juninho, Ravanelli and Emerson still on board?
And who took the decision to cancel Marco Branca's contract when he was struggling with injury, why didn't the likes of Gary Pallister suffer a similar fate? The Branca episode could still come back to haunt Boro, as UEFA threaten to ban Boro from all competions, over Branca's compensation claim.
I can't print what I think of the bloke on here, but it would go something like this: £!*& @££ Mr. Lamb ^@! #*&$@!.
