Only one senior player, Chris Riggott, remains from the team who lost to Sevilla in the UEFA Cup final just three years ago as big-name players, on big wages, have been moved on.
The scale of change has been dramatic and Boro’s results have suffered. But one man still believes bringing in Gordon Strachan was the right move at the right time.
Craig Hignett: “When the decision was taken to get rid of Gareth Southgate the next move was to replace him with someone with a vast amount of experience and know-how,” said Hignett.
“The club have definitely got that in Gordon Strachan. He’s the right man for the job and exactly what the club needs.”
