Gareth in, but Ugo misses out

Gareth Southgate was included for the game at Villa Park but his partner Ugo Ehiogu has missed out. He probably misses out due to the inclusion of Boro-born Jonathan Woodgate, who has been included alongside his Leeds team-mate Lee Bowyer, although Sol Campbell and Wes Brown are also missing through injury.

The full squad is as follows:

Goalkeepers: James (West Ham), Robinson (Leeds).

Defenders: Mills (Leeds), Ashley Cole (Arsenal), Bridge (Southampton), Ferdinand (Man Utd), Southgate (Boro), Woodgate (Leeds).

Midfielders: Beckham (Man Utd), Butt (Man Utd), Dyer (Newcastle), Sinclair (West Ham), Murphy (Liverpool), Gerrard (Liverpool), Hargreaves (Bayern Munich), Bowyer (Leeds), J Cole (West Ham).

Forwards: Owen (Liverpool), Heskey (Liverpool), Smith (Leeds)

Another massive boost was given to 20-year-old Stuart Parnaby who has been called up into David Platt's U-21 squad for their game against Yugoslavia at the Reebok Stadium on Friday night.

Parnaby has previously played for England from schoolboy level up through the youth set-up to U-20 level and now has his sights set firmly on the last rung before the full squad

Although, he will need to break into Boro's first team before we start getting excited, but the experience should do wonders for his confidence.

The full U-21 squad is:

Ameobi (Newcastle), Barry (Aston Villa), Bramble (Newcastle), Clarke (Everton), Crouch (Aston Villa), Defoe (West Ham), Etherington (Tottenham), Evans (Chelsea), Howarth (York), Jeffers (Arsenal), Jenas (Newcastle), Kirkland (Liverpool), Konchesky (Charlton), Lescott (Wolves), O'Neil (Portsmouth), Parnaby (Middlesbrough), Pennant (Arsenal), Piper (Sunderland), Prutton (Nottingham Forest), Samuel (Aston Villa), Taylor (Portsmouth), Wright-Phillips (Manchester City).
