Sven Goran Eriksson's team bowed out to the Brazilians after leading through a Michael Owen goal. A mistake by Lucio allowed Owen to pounce and put England ahead after 23 minutes.
Brazil stunned England with a brilliant equaliser deep into first half injury time. Ronaldinho was allowed to break from the half-way line and played in Ronaldo who curled a left foot shot past Seaman.
Five minutes into the second half the Brazil took the lead. As Ronaldinho lined up a free-kick wide on the right Seaman set himself for the cross, but the Brazilian floated the ball towrds the top corner, and the flat-footed Seaman watched desperatley as the ball went in off the underside of the bar.
With an hour gone England were given a lifeline by Mexican referee Ramos Rizo, who harshly sent off Ronaldinho for showing his studs in a tackle on Danny Mills. But England failed to make their advantage count.
In fact England played better against the 11-man Brazil, with the three R's committed upfont their was always a chance that England could capitalize. But with 10 men Brazil had more resolve and got men behind the ball to thwart England's offensive.
England failed to create a single chance in the final half hour and allowed Brazil to maintain their 100% record against our boys. If history repeats itself Brazil will lift the World Cup in 9 days time.
Boro's Gareth Southgate remained an unused substitute throughout the tournament and failed to increase the number of Boro players to play in the World Cup Finals. Alen Boksic and Joseph-Desire Job became the 7th and 8th players respectively to represent the club in the finals.
