Downing Gets His Head Down!

The 22-year-old central defender (who has been used in the midfield due to a shortage of players), admits it must have been unsettling for the England international to hear reports of a move to White Hart Lane.
Matthew Bates: (talking to the Gazette): "The end of January can't come soon enough, but I think Stewie has been a role model in how he's handled himself.
"He had his own reasons for handing his transfer request in. But his manner in and around the training ground and on the pitch has been outstanding.
"If anything he's probably worked harder than ever on the pitch and that shows just how much he loves the club and wants to be here.
"I think he wants to stay here really. He's just a bit frustrated like everyone else is about our current position.
"He's a top player and wants to do well and our club - the manager and the chairman - can show him we can get up the league later in the season and get a few wins. I think he will be here to stay."
