TONY MOWBRAY has completed his first signing as Middlesbrough manager after successfully landing Bayern Munich II defender Maximilian Haas. Haas has agreed a one-and-a-half year contract at the Riverside Stadium after passing a medical at the club's Rockliffe Park training headquarters. The 25-year-old, formerly of Eintracht Freising, has played 62 times for Bayern's second string in Germany's third division. Middlesbrough boss Mowbray said: "Maximilian was very keen to come here and test himself in English football. It's a challenge for him and his arrival will create additional competition for places." Haas is unlikely to figure in Tuesday night's match with Scunthorpe at the Riverside Stadium and he replaces David Wheater, who joined Bolton last week, in the Boro squad.
