Downing: "To be honest, I think when it comes to England it helps to have other strings to your bow.
"Fabio Capello has said as long as you are playing well for your club it doesn't matter what position you are in.
"Plenty of lads go back to clubs and play in different positions and it doesn't affect their England place.
"It hasn't concerned me that I haven't scored.
"I know people expect it now but I have been playing a different role this year, playing deeper and doing a lot more defending.
"Of course it was nice to get the goal but I'm not fussed who puts it in as long as the team score.
"They are a good team in good form and we have come away disappointed we haven't won.
"We have played well in the last few games, worked hard and created chances and I think you can see the confidence is coming back.
"We have got some big games coming up now and we are determined to keep that going and turning our improved form into wins."
