Steve Gibson: "He has an air of discipline and authority about him.
"He's a ginger fiery Scotsman, he's not the kind of man you want to cross.
"I was desperate to bring someone in who knocked me off my feet and wowed me and when I talked to him he was absolutely confident in his own ability, determined to carry the changes through and was confident he could improve the club.
"What I wanted was real faith back in someone. His enthusiasm is infectious. It rubs off on those around. The extra determination is back.
"I have made a commitment, Gordon has signed for three years but I will be disappointed if he is not here for a lot longer.
"It has to be balanced. If I say to Gordon, 'I want you to win us promotion,' I have to give him the tools.
"I can't be thinking I'm out the door if it gets a bit tough."
