Boro currently have six players on the treatment table.
Danny Graham (stress fracture), Tony McMahon (dislocated shoulder) and Stuart Parnaby (knee) are all some way off a return.
Malcolm Christie (leg) and Chris Riggott (knee) should be back in a couple of weeks, but James Morrison (ankle) has a chance against Tottenham.
With Emanuel Pogatetz still banned and Ugo Ehiogu suspended the Boro defence is down to the bare bones. Youngster Matthew Bates could make his first Premiership start, while his FA Youth Cup team-mate David Wheater could be on the bench.
Spurs are in a worse state with injurys, having no less than nine players in for treatment, however Robbie Keane and Edgar Davids have both made the squad.
Amongst the others injured are Sean Davis, Michael Browm, Ledley King and Noe Pamarot.
