Gary O’Neil: “We have all been looking to January and the transfer window so we could get new players in and push on.
“We know that we have been falling short in the first half of the season, that we are a bit lightweight and lacking in experience.
“Look at Newcastle: they are full of experienced men who have played hundreds of games where at times we have looked a bit like a youth team and that needs to change.
“And the general rule is that if you sign better players you become a better team. So the more good players the gaffer signs the better.
“Right now the squad isn’t good enough and the tally from the first 25 games shows that.
“The new lads added something but I don’t think three was the aim.
“I am hoping for the same again, another three before the transfer window closes.
“And yes it can be awkward bedding people in sometimes during the season but it shouldn’t be difficult here. We play a standard 4-4-2 and everyone has played it before.
“January can be a bit dicey and some lads will be looking over their shoulders.
“But any of the lads who don’t want new players to come in just so they can keep their own place shouldn’t really be in the game.
“The situation is not great but it’s not desperate yet.
“In the Premier League the teams above you don’t drop many points but in this league every team gets beat so you know a good run and you’re back in it.
“The main thing is to sort ourselves out and stop losing games or the gap will get bigger.”
