Promotion for Leeds would have triggered a clause in the contract of Michael Ricketts who moved to Leeds in 2004.
The one-time England forward was a flop at Boro and also failed to make it at Leeds, spending time out on loan at Stoke, Cardiff and Burnley.
His contract stated that if he was still a Leeds player when Leeds were promoted to the Premiership Boro would receive a windfall of £1.8m.
Alas it was not to be.
