Middlesbrough striker Scott McDonald has warned his team-mates that their decent home form will not be enough to carry their promotion bid this season.Boro have picked up three straight wins on home turf but have recorded just a single point away from the Riverside, and are yet to score a goal.
"We've got to start winning away from home," McDonald told BBC Tees.
"If we can pick up maximum points in the next three games we'll be well on our way to being serious contenders."
McDonald added: "At home we're always going to be difficult to beat.
"We've played some good stuff, and some bad stuff at home, but we've got to take off away.
"We've got to get that win under our belts and get that belief that we can get points on the board."
The Australia international has netted three goals for Gordon Strachan's side this season, but has failed to find the net since the club's Carling Cup defeat by Millwall on 24 August.
It is a situation that continues to niggle McDonald, who joined the club having scored 51 league goals in 89 games for Celtic in the Scottish Premier League.
"I've come off a little bit frustrated, I had chances against Burnley to bury them but it didn't happen, and then again at the weekend I hit the bar, and had a couple of chances," he said.
"I think I've played well anyhow, and the boys, we got the victory so I can't complain too much but of course I want goals.
"We're all here to do our jobs, my job's to help the team win and to score goals."
