McClaren watched Carbone play and score for Bradford on Saturday against Grimsby. He hopes to bring him in in time for Boro's game against Leeds this weekend.
McClaren said "I've made contact with Bradford City about signing Benito on loan. A final decision has not been made yet but things could be sorted out soon."
Boro have agreed a loan deal with Bradford but it would appear that the Italian is after a permanent deal, so the move is far from complete.
After all he returned to Bradford, from a loan spell at Derby last month, because Derby could not offer him a permanent deal.
