Just a few weeks ago Mowbray was scratching around in an attempt to try to put together a back four.
But with Seb Hines fighting his way back from an ankle problem and Stephen McManus and Andrew Davies having both played for the reserves in midweek, his options have increased markedly.
Mowbray, who also expects to have Matthew Bates back on the training ground next week, told the club's official website: "It's pleasing.
"From the centre-half positions being almost empty, we are going to have some competition in the next few weeks. It's good to
see options. The more we have got, the better.
"Stephen has been out for five months, Matthew's been out for probably eight or nine weeks and then Andrew has been out for a few weeks. But they do give us some options now."
