Downing was the last of six substitutes used by Sven Goran Eriksson and in his 13 minutes on the pitch he set up England's final goal in the 6-0 demolition of Jamaica.

He played the ball into Michael Owen on the edge of the box who laid off to Peter Crouch and the lanky striker curled the ball into the bottom corner for his hat-trick.

Other than that Downing was rarely in the game.
