Boro's 2-1 win at relegation-haunted Sheffield United on Saturday lifted them 11 points clear of the drop zone with all the teams below them having just six games to play.
Tony Mowbray's men have now taken 11 points from the last 15 on offer to all but end their fears of slipping out of the npower Championship and are enjoying the breathing space they have given themselves.
Bennett said: "It has been a struggle. All the fans have been frustrated, I know that, and all the players have as well.
"But the last few weeks have been really good. We have been playing really well and scoring quite a lot of goals, which is good.
"We want to win every game, that's our aim, but in this league it is not as easy as that and everyone knows that. But hopefully another six points, maybe, and we will be safe."
