Aussies get the call

Both players have spent the week at a training camp in Hoenderloo, the Netherlands.

The Socceroos play the Solomon Islands in a two match play-off on 3rd and 6th September, home and away. In the second stage of qualifying, as recent as June, the teams played a 2-2 draw in Adelaide.

The winners will be Oceania's representitives in a play-off against the 5th placed team in the South American qualifying group, for a place in the World Cup Finals next year.

Brazil and Argentina apart, the South American group is wide open with five teams all within five points of each other.

Ecuador (23) and Paraguay (22) are currently in the automatic qualifying positions with Colombia (20), Chile (20) and Uruguay (18) close behind. Each team has three more qualifying games to play.

The Oceania v South America play-off is scheduled for the middle of November.



Boro youngsters Adam Johnson and David Wheater have been called up for the England U-19 squad, who have a friendly against Belgium in Darlington on 6th September.
