Another Friendly Victory – Three on the Bounce

Last updated : 05 August 2003 By Holgate

Another decent return from South Yorkshire for Boro on Saturday following the 3-1 victory at Rotherham last Wednesday. Once again there were goals from midfield! Juninho got his second in four days and Jonathan Greening contributed following a fine lay-back by Szilard Nemeth.

Boro reverted to five at the back, as they had two games earlier at Hull City, with Robbie Stockdale replacing Stuart Parnaby.

Within 20 minutes it was 2-0 to Boro, Juninho a free-kick after four minutes and Nemeth after 20 after good work from Christie set up the chance. However, 15 minutes later it was 2-2 as Tonge fired home a free-kick conceded by Chris Riggott and then hit a screamer from 30 yards.

Although Tonge hit two for United and may have looked like the free-scoring midfielder we crave the smart money rates the Blades, Hartlepool born, Michael Brown a better prospect.

In the second half as substitutions took their toll (Boro four subs, United eight subs) the game was a bit less fluid. In amongst the stoppages Greening hit a 67th minute winner.

The next game is Tuesday 5th August, away to Halifax. No doubt a weaker Boro squad will travel to this.
